Now is the time to buy a used trailer for sale at a bargain price. Why? Well many people are now looking for money to pay for Christmas. Those credit card bills are arriving in the post and need to be paid. So some people look around their house and garden to find something to sell. Your trailer may be at risk! The reasoning will be sound. It is just sitting there doing nothing and will probably be there next month and the next, just sitting there. So it is a prime target for the - things to be sold to raise money list.
If you have some spare money right now, you could take advantage of this fact. Look for trailers listed for sale in January. You know the real reason they are up for sale now is to bring in money to pay bills. So you not only have a ready seller but you will also have little competition because not many others will have spare money to spend on trailers.
Strike while the iron is hot, as the saying goes. Buy your used trailer while there are few people looking to buy. If you would like to see what is for sale right now, why not visit our site at http://www.usedtrailers4sale.co.uk/

A trailer for the New Year!
Why not decide to buy a trailer for the New Year? There are dozens of reasons for you to buy a trailer to use in the coming year. Not only can your trailer save you money but it can also make you money if you want it to. Another advantage is - having a trailer outside your house will encourage you to actively clear out unwanted items and take them to your local recycling centre. Doing your bit for the environment!
Every day someone near you is looking for a method of transporting some item. You could let them know you have a trailer that can solve their problem - for a fee.
Whether part time or full time your trailer can earn you money. Remember we are in a Recession. People no longer can afford van rental of £60 to £90 a day. Especially when you could do it for £25 for a few hours work. Hire the trailer to them or provide a service where you use your own car to tow the trailer - more money!
If you are looking for a easy way to earn extra money this coming New Year, why not go to my site - http://www.usedtrailers4sale.co.uk/ and see the many types of trailers listed right now for sale and ready to make you money!
I wish you a profitable New Year!

Assembling the trailer.

With the various parts painted it was ready for assembly. The base of the trailer was a problem that I found difficult to address. My first thoughts were to use the same wood as the sides of the trailer. But this would mean having six planks laid side by side, probably not evenly. They could not be glued together, successfully. I then thought about plywood. But this gets damaged easily when the thin veneer is scraped. So I finally decided on two layers. The first layer was plywood, cut to fit tight against the sides. The second layer was a sheet of mild steel, again fitted against the sides.
The thin mild steel sheet was primed and then painted with two coats of metal paint. To seal the sides to the base I used quarter round section wood. Wood screws were used to tightly fit against the sides and the mild steel. Silicon sealant was also applied to the mild steel before it was covered by the wood trim.

re-painting the trailer parts
I bought Ronseal Metal Paint. But I could have chosen Hammerite paint which is very good. I also used a paint brush to apply the paint. Some of you may prefer a roller. Both are good. A roller leaves a thinner coat of paint on the metal than the brush. As protection is the aim, I prefer to use a brush for a thicker coat of paint.
Be accurate when painting. Make sure all the metal is covered by paint. Take your time when applying the paint. The overall finish will be so much better if you have made the effort to apply the paint well and it is neat.

Stripped down to the frame.
When I removed all of the original wood from the trailer, I was left with only the frame. The frame showed signs of rust. Mostly surface rust. This was cleaned off with a wire brush, white spirits and then emery cloth. The emery cloth really did the job! I then applied a coat of rust eater all over the inner part of the framework. This was not needed on the exterior of the frame because the original paintwork protected the metal from serious rust.
The photo above shows the framework with a coat of metal primer applied to it. This grey primer was applied twice to really help protect the metalwork. Special attention was given to the holes that were drilled in the angle iron. Primer was put into these holes to make sure there was no bare metal left exposed to the atmosphere.
Finally, a top coat of metal paint was applied over the primer.

trailer tent?
My wife annouced today that she wanted a trailer tent to go on holiday and weekend breaks. So the hunt is on for a cheap trailer tent. At work she has been surfing the net and spotted a few cheap trailer tents. What she probably does not realise is that these cheap ones will need work. Now I can put up with an outfit that just needs a clean and a few alterations but from experience I know she will be put off, if its not clean and as new!
So we will go through the motion and visit cheap trailer tents until she comes round to realising that we will need to pay a bit more to get a reasonable outfit. I know she will want something that looks good on the camp site. So no projects! I suppose I am getting to the stage where I do not want any more projects. So I will put my foot down and say no! OK! OK! I do not mind if it needs a paint job or the zip sewn up or a new floor but I will draw the line at a total rebuild!
I will keep you informed if and when we get the trailer tent!

New sides for the box trailer
Today I cut all the wood for the new sides of the box trailer. Once all the planks were cut I painted them all with wood primer. It is important that this primer is applied to the planks before fitting them in place. Why?
Well if the planks are put in place first, there will be parts of the plank that will not be painted because you cannot reach it with a brush. These unpainted parts will allow moisture and eventually, rot to start and spread throughout the plank of wood. So most well built box trailers will be painted before assembly. Obviously those parts of the plank that will have glue applied will not be painted.
The weather was sunny during the early part of the day but some sun showers meant I had to move inside with the painted planks, to allow them to dry.
Next stage will be to apply an undercoat of paint, which will be slightly different in colour to the finishing coat of paint. Why different colour?
Well it is different so I know which part of the plank is covered in the new coat of paint by looking at the colour difference! Might seem obvious to you, but not everyone thinks this out when choosing the undercoat. How many times have you gone into a shop and bought white undercoat for a white gloss? Right?
Let you know how it going, soon
